In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Question:
Honorable Dr. Mohammad Rateb Al Nabulsi,
Assalam Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatuh,
A Muslim sister asked a question of Allah's capability of creating.
She asked: Allah is capable of creating everything, and when He creates something, He controls it. Does that mean He would be incapable (exalted is He above such an assumption) of creating something that is beyond His control?
May Allah reward you with all good on our behalf.
Answer:
In The Name Of Allah The Most Gracious The Most Merciful, and may peace and blessings be upon the best of messengers, Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, the truthful, the trustworthy, who fulfilled his promises.
Dear sister, this is a false misconception.
Communists and atheists have put forward this idea, but it is based on profound ignorance.
Questioning whether Allah can create something greater or stronger than Himself, create a rock that He cannot lift, create another being equal to Himself, or have a child is based on impossible assumptions. These scenarios are not limitations on Allah's power; rather, they are logical contradictions that are incompatible with His Lordship, Omnipotence and absolute perfection.
If they claim that this impossibility implies attributing incapability to Allah, we respond by saying this alleged implication is false.
It stems only from a simple, limited mind that is ignorant of the most basic facts.
We can't describe what lies beyond the scope of capability as powerlessness.
Capability relates only to what is possible, not to what is impossible.
For the sake of discussion let us assume the impossible were to occur and Allah created a being more powerful than Himself. Such a being would, by definition, be able to defeat its creator, who would then be in this case powerless and weak. Yet a being that is powerless and weak cannot be The Lord, The Omnipotent or The All-Dominant.
Generally speaking, these misconceptions would only be expressed by someone who is ignorant of his Lord and who has not given Allah the estimation that is due to Him.
Had any of them known that the earth on which he lives constitutes only one part in a million of the Sun's size, and that the distance between the earth and the sun is only about 8 light-minutes he would never have said such a thing.
Needless to say, the distance between the earth and some stars is millions or even billions of light-years, given that these stars are merely adornments of the first heaven, let alone the other six heavens.
The prophet PBUH said:
((Abu Dharr, the seven heavens in comparison to the Kursi are like a ring thrown into a vast open desert, and the superiority of the Throne over the Kursi is like the superiority of the vast desert over that ring ))
Then what can be said about the Creator of the Kursi, Al Arsh (Throne):
Allah says:
﴾ The Most Beneficent (Allah) Istawa (rose over) the (Mighty) Throne (in a manner that suits His Majesty). ﴿
Allah Also says:
﴾ He is the Irresistible, Supreme over His slaves ﴿
